Note: Please read the “About Me” page as well (preferably first) as it gives insight into the author, which insight will be a helpful guide when reading this page.
My original statement of Opinion Streams’ purpose was, in relevant part, as follows:
…with Opinion Streams, I will share with you my whole self through an exploration of all the areas that make me tick. On this site, I will share my views on and relay developing news about topics ranging from politics and social issues to Christianity and technology.
That statement of purpose has changed somewhat, as my post-election transitional article explained. Opinion Streams will have a particular focus politics and policy-related news and opinion, sometimes with the intention of opining on such matters from the standpoint of someone with a Christian worldview.
As I believe that Christianity has come under increasing attack in America from various sectors, I feel a tremendous need to defend my Christian faith, even if that means defending it against other Christians. I’m not necessarily an apologist, as I think that apologists defend Christianity with regard to other religions and perhaps also with regard to atheism. I may delve into that at some point, but it’s not my focus. Rather, I will defend Christianity with regard to the stereotypical (and, indeed sometimes accurate) views Americans associate with Christians when thinking about social and political issues, such as abortion, which was touched on in my first such “defense” article, “The Conservative Christian Case for Supporting Obama.”
Through Opinion Streams, I want to foster a discussion that develops and helps me and my readers gain a deeper knowledge of the topics discussed. I will use Opinion Streams as the vehicle to provide news and analysis on any and every politics or policy related issue that interests me, infusing my Christianity with politics and policy discussions wherever warranted, and will try to also provide such coverage for general interest political and policy topics. Opinion Streams will also be the forum through which I share my paradigmatic realignments in an effort to expose readers to a new viewpoint and, in the process, hopefully expand my own mind. Occasionally, I may even opine on technology issues, though such opining will by no means remotely be the continued focus of Opinion Streams.
My articles will often rely heavily on documented, linkable facts, partially because I feel this is necessary in light of Opinion Streams not being an established news source and also because my legal training inclines me to rely on facts to prove my arguments. Readers will know when an article, or a portion of an article, is solely based on my opinion inferred from observational or other non-documented sources (such as opinions derived from my experience).
My writing and debate styles are a reflection of my legal training, and will thus at times resemble advocacy and seem adversarial. Though I will mainly employ these devices intentionally (to advance the point of a particular article; not to demean my visitors), I understand that the latter device particularly can be off-putting to some readers. I thus apologize in advance if I offend someone. Offense is never intended.
